2025 Day 4: Pottery and Popsicle Art

Pottery and Popsicle Art
By Penelope Olive

I close down my pc…coming home to myself…

How did these fingernail sized cuts come to be so
evenly set side by side along the rim of this tiny
leaning slightly to the right mint green vase?
And small fingers and hands -
how did they roll these long strands of clay,
so evenly?
now sides that form this delph blue bowl?
And I recall joy and pride in presenting
a green tyrannosaurus rex, also clay –
and mint green - with open belly
therein to put flowers…
Happy Mother’s Day!

And high atop my overfilled book case sits
A popsicle stick bird house with dried lilac sprigs
springing atop and all sides - with
plump chickadee settled warmly inside,
and I remember my child, a young man,
a father, working feverishly to glue and place
each sprig all around, caught up in the
child’s play of it…I watched him leaning
to place each dried branch, there too
was joy and pride in the work…and he now,
my child, my son, too soon in heaven...
Mother’s Day now drenched with sadness.

Prompt:
