2025: Gratitude to the tangible

Gratitude to the tangible

Thank you for resting so gently between
my fingers ready to save my thoughts;
I loved glancing up and seeing you felt green
and tiny and all decked out for Christmas;
I am grateful for your smile as I remember
to ask you to pray for me as I accompany;
I love your bright colours and trim sizes always
ready for my nightly dose of water and pill;
Sometimes I need to feel warmer but I do love
your snuggly hugs on my arms and shoulders.

Prompt: for a place to start, try this prompt for free verse: Write a poem that is a list of short thank-you notes to the tangible objects you are grateful for today. Describe them in as much detail as possible without saying what they are.

My tangible objects: Dad’s pen; Jason’s felt Christmas tree ornament made at 1 ½ years old; memorial card of Fr John Wickham SJ; Contigo Cherry Blossom-Yellow Trekker water bottle; crewneck long sleeve T-shirt.
