Poppy Memoirs by Penelope Olive
Snow melting stretching floppy
spiked leaves up beyond
through melting feel
cold air biting with wind
never mind strength will
keep me green
Feeling free now stretch
leaves towards sun
longing for bright color
felt within soon to come
without time is slow
I am not
Peeking out among thick leaves
daring to stretch growing hairy
stalk friends on either side
peeking out or stretching up
higher with swollen bulb
almost ready
Bursting flame of color
all around plants
spread through growth
ready for another spring
show of brilliance tribute
to Turkey
Living eternally for years
Papaver Orientales fiery
flashes in the pan so to
speak ahs and oohs sadly
gone tomorrow now alas
but a memory.
